Las américas free zone park and ege haina sign an extension of contract for purchase and sale of renewable energy

With this agreement, approximately 70% of the annual energy demand of Las Americas will be supplied from renewable sources, wind and solar energy

Las Américas Free Zone Park and the Haina Electricity Generating Company (EGE Haina) signed an extension agreement for the purchase and sale of renewable energy that will be used in the operations of this park.

The signing of the agreement was led by Luis Mejía Brache, General Manager of EGE Haina, and Claudia Pellerano, President of the Board of Directors of Las Américas, who expressed their satisfaction with the extension of this agreement, through which the link of trust between both companies is renewed.

In that sense, Claudia Pellerano expressed her pride that the Park’s operations are increasingly geared towards more environmentally friendly production. “It is part of our social responsibility as an industry to adopt alternatives that contribute to the protection of the environment and at the same time continue to offer a quality service for our clients. With this agreement, more
than 70% of our energy will be supplied by totally renewable sources, which is a source of great pride for us”.

In turn, Luis Mejía Brache thanked the trust and stated that EGE Haina will continue to contribute to the Las Américas Free Zone operations, through the production of its renewable power plants. “The generation and sale of clean energy in the Dominican electricity market reaffirms our commitment to sustainability. That purpose is the fundamental component in all our actions”, he emphasized.

So far, Los Cocos Wind Farm, owned by EGE Haina, has supplied the energy required in the Las Américas´s processes. And, as of the year 2021, other wind and photovoltaic plants from EGE Haina will be added to this supply.

EGE Haina is the largest producer of unconventional renewable energy in the Antilles. The company has installed 300 MW of renewable energy from 2011 to 2021, in four wind farms and two solar parks, for an approximate annual production of 842,000 MWh, respectively. Together, EGE Haina’s six renewable plants (four wind and two solar) and the conversion of Quisqueya 2 to natural gas will prevent the emission into the atmosphere of 665,000 tons of CO2 each year, as well as the import of 3 million barrels of Petroleum.
